SYMPTOMS

On your computer that is running Microsoft Windows 2000, if you use the Group Policy settings to add some administrative templates that are included in the French version of Microsoft Windows XP to Administrative Templates, you may receive the following error message:
The following entry in the [strings] section is too long and has been truncated.

For example, you experience these symptoms if you try to add the System.adm file or the Wmplayer.adm file that is included in the French version of Windows XP.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the administrative template contains a string that has more than 256 characters and the string is not localized correctly when the administrative template is added to the Group Policy settings in Windows 2000.

RESOLUTION

Service pack information
