When you turn on logging for Security Configuration Client processing in Microsoft Windows 2000, extra files are created in the Winnt\System32 folder of your computer, where Winnt is the folder where Windows is installed. These extra files have file names that are similar to the following: 12/27/2001 12:58a 202 ?icurity=impersonation dynamic false RESOLUTIONService pack information

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

WORKAROUNDWarning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk. To work around this issue, turn off logging for Security Configuration Client processing. When you do this, the extra files are not created. To turn off logging, follow these steps:
- Start Registry Editor.
- Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\GPExtensions\{827D319E-6EAC-11D2-A4EA-00C04F79F83A} - In the right pane, right-click the ExtensionDebugLevel value, and then click Modify on the drop-down menu.
- In the Value Data box, type 0 to replace the 2, and then click OK.
- Quit Registry Editor.
- To immediately apply these settings, type the following command at a command prompt and then press ENTER:
secedit /refreshpolicy machine_policy /enforce
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4.
