Visio2000: VNE Shapes Are Missing When You Open a Converted Visio Drawing in AutoCAD (323518)

SYMPTOMS

If you convert a Visio drawing that contains Microsoft Visio Network Equipment (VNE) shapes to AutoCAD (CAD) format by saving the drawing as a .dwg file, the VNE shapes may be missing from the drawing when you open and view the drawing in AutoCAD. The drawing may be blank.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if the VNE shapes in the Visio drawing are grouped.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, ungroup the VNE shapes, and then convert the drawing to CAD format. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start Visio, and then open the drawing page that you want convert to CAD format.
  2. Right-click a shape, point to Shape, and then click Ungroup.
  3. Ungroup the shapes a second time. To do so, right-click each shape that you ungrouped, point to Shape, and then click Ungroup.

    Click OK when you are prompted that this action severs the object's link to its master.
  4. On the File menu, click Save as.
  5. Specify a name and location where you want to save the file.
  6. In the Save as type list, click AutoCAD drawing (*.dwg), and then click Save.
