SYMPTOMS

If you try to open pictures from a digital camera or flash card reader USB by using any of the programs listed at the beginning of this article, the pictures may not appear in the Look for Items in list, or they may appear in the list but are unavailable (appear dimmed).

CAUSE

This problem may occur because Picture it! has no wizard to open pictures from a camera or flash card reader.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use either of the following methods.

NOTE: Some cameras or flash card readers display a Removable Disk icon in My Computer and in Picture It! as a way for you to access the device. These devices can connect to the computer through Removable Disk.

The methods described in this workaround are only appropriate if your device is listed as Removable Disk in My Computer or in the Look for Items in list in Picture It!. If Removable Disk is not present, use a different method or product to open the pictures in Picture It!

Method 1: Open the Flash Card Reader or the Camera by Means of the Removable Disk Option

  1. Start Picture It!.
  2. On the File menu, click Open.
  3. In the Look for Items in list, click Removable Disk.
  4. Locate and click the image that you want to use, and then click Open.

Method 2: Copy the Pictures from the Camera or Flash Card Reader to the Hard Disk

The folder names in this procedure may vary, depending on the brand of your camera or flash card reader. For example, the folder name may be the model name or number of the device.

  2. Double-click Removable Disk.
  3. Double-click DCIM (or other folder).
