MOM: Duplicate Events Are Triggered When You Monitor MOM Agents on Clustered Servers (323221)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Operations Manager 2000

This article was previously published under Q323221

SYMPTOMS

When you monitor Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2000 agents on clustered servers, duplicate events may be entered in the MOM database.

WORKAROUND

There is a workaround that permits a clustered server to produce only one event per clustered node. For additional information about this workaround, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

224969 HOW TO: Configure Event Log Replication in Windows 2000 Cluster Servers

After you apply this workaround, MOM 2000 can effectively monitor clustered servers as easily as non-clustered servers.

Note This workaround does not make the MOM agent cluster-aware. That is, it does not provide the MOM agent with any of the following:
  • Aggregate performance data on a cluster.
  • The ability to determine when one side of a cluster fails.
  • A cluster-specific management pack.
  • Support for installing the MOM database on a clustered computer running Microsoft SQL Server.
  • The ability to discover clusters and members.
Also note that scripts and response in management packs are not cluster-aware.
