A video "tear out" may occur in Windows Media Player when you play content that is encoded with the Windows Media Player version 8.0 video codec. The tear out appears as a dark horizontal line or lines in the video output, typically below where bright white color occurs in the video.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Windows Media Player versions 6.4, 7.0, and 7.1.
This problem was corrected in Windows Media Player 8.0 (which is included with Microsoft Windows XP) and future versions of WMP.
