PRB: Silent Pack Issue If the Site Name That You Use Is Not Valid (323102)

SYMPTOMS

When you package an existing site by using the Commerce Server 2002 Site Packager, a site that does not exist may appear in the Commerce Server Manager.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if you use a site name for a site that does not exist when you try to package a Commerce Server 2002 Site from the command line.

RESOLUTION

To avoid this problem, use a valid site name when you run the Commerce Server 2002 Site Packager.

To remove the site name that is not valid from the Commerce Server Manager, follow these steps:
  1. Open the Commerce Server Manager.
  2. Expand Commerce Sites.
  3. Right-click the site name that is not valid, and then click Delete.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. From a command prompt, run the Commerce Site Packager. Use a site name that is not valid, as in the following sample command line:

    pup /p /s:MyRetailSite /f:C:\Program Files\Microsoft Commerce Server 2002\PuP Packages\MyRetailSite.pup /i:C:\Program Files\Microsoft Commerce Server 2002\SDK\Samples\SiteCreate\packRetail.ini

  2. Verify that MyRetailSite.pup exists in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Commerce Server 2002\Pup Packages folder.
  3. Verify that the site MyRetailSite, which is not valid, appears in the Commerce Server Manager.
