"This Kids Passport Does Not Have Permissions" Error Message When You Sign In to Instant Messenger (323057)

If you try to sign in to Instant Messenger with a Kid's Passport version of the Microsoft .NET Passport, you receive the following error message:
This Kids Passport does not have permissions to access the launched service. Click OK to go to the Kids Passport Web site to get more information as well as get parental consent for access.
The link in the Kids Passport error-message browses to the following Kids Passport Web site
instead of to the Instant Messenger sign-in page.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because Kid's Passport accounts must be explicitly granted permission to use Instant Messenger.
WORKAROUND
To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
- Click OK in response to the error message listed in the "Symptoms" section of this article.
You are taken to the Kid's Passport Web site. - Notice the Kid's Corner link, under which children can request permission to Web sites.
- Sign in by using the Kid's Passport, and then request permission to Instant Messenger.
- Follow the steps in the wizard to gain permissions to use Instant Messenger (the child's parent will have to sign in and grant consent as part of this process).
