Pages of a Document That Are Printed to Different Printers on the Same Print Server May Not Print with the Same Font (322983)

SYMPTOMS

When there are multiple printers installed on a Windows 2000-based print server, and you print different pages of a document on each printer at the same time, the pages that are printed on one or more of the printers may not print with the correct font.

Note The pages that are printed on one of the printers that is connected to your print server print with the correct font.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if all the following conditions are true:
  • You have two or more printers connected to your print server.
  • The printers are configured to print with the EMF data type.
  • You print multiple documents to each printer at exactly the same time.
  • You use the same font in all the documents that you print.
  • The font that you use in the documents is not installed on the print server.
  • You print one page of the document on one printer, and you print a different page of the document on a second printer at exactly the same time.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, configure your server printers to print with the RAW data type. To do this, follow these steps.

Note These steps may be different for your specific printer driver.
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and the click Printers.
  2. In the Printers dialog box, right-click your printer, and then click Properties.
  3. On the Advanced tab, click Print Processor.
  4. In the Default datatype list, click RAW, and then click OK.
  5. Click OK to close the printer Properties dialog box.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 4.
