BUG: You Cannot Leave the Chat Room Page by Clicking the Back Button (322977)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to join a chat room from which you have been banned, you receive a dialog box that states that you have been banned. When you click OK in the dialog box, the Chat Home page appears. When you click the Back button, you cannot leave the Chat Home page, although you are not connected to the chat room.

WORKAROUND

To work around the problem, do one of the following:
  • Use the GOTO panel to visit any valid Web page.

    -or-
  • Start any program on the User tab.
NOTE: The following actions will not resolve the problem:
  • Sign out of MSN services.
  • Start any other program on the TV tab.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

To reproduce the problem, follow these steps:
  1. Use your computer to create a chat room.
  2. Join that chat room from a set-top box (STB) or from a computer running Windows CE.
  3. On the computer that you used in step 1, use the Custom Kick/Ban option to ban the STB user from the chat room for one hour.
  4. On the STB, you receive the following error message:
    "Host Host Name kicked you from the chat room; (Access ban set for 1 hour)"
  5. Leave the chat room, and then immediately try to rejoin the chat room. You receive the following error message:
    "The service is unable to connect you to this room. This room may be temporarily unavailable or your account may have been banned from entering this room. You may be able to reconnect to this room at a later time."
  6. Click the Back button.
