This article was previously published under Q322836

SYMPTOMS

If you try to create a new user account on a domain controller, the Exchange tabs may be missing for those new users. However, if you open the user properties on a domain controller on which Exchange 2000 Server is installed, the Exchange tabs are available.

RESOLUTION

To manage Exchange 2000 Server remotely, you can install Microsoft Exchange System Management Tools.

NOTE: To install Microsoft Exchange System Management Tools on a Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional-based computer, you must first install the Microsoft Windows 2000 Adminpak (Adminpak.msi) on the computer.

To locate the Adminpak.msi file, open the I386 folder on the Windows 2000 Server CD-ROM. To install Microsoft Exchange System Management Tools, follow these steps:
  1. Insert the Exchange 2000 Server CD-ROM into the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive of the Windows 2000-based computer that you want to use, and then click Exchange Server Setup to run the Exchange 2000 Setup Wizard.
  2. On the Component Selection page, click Custom in the Action list next to Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.
  3. In the Action list next to Microsoft Exchange System Management Tools, click Install. Leave all other component actions blank.

This selection installs System Manager only.
  4. Click Next, and then complete the remaining steps in the wizard.
