DOC: SQL Server Books Online Includes Incorrect Documentation on Distribution Agent Profile Parameters in Transactional Replication (322667)

SUMMARY

There are two problems in SQL Server 2000 Books Online documentation about the Distribution Agent profile in transactional replication:

1. In SQL Server 2000 Books Online, the default Distribution Agent profile includes parameter SkipFailureLevel = 1, which means the Distribution Agent ignores errors; however, in Enterprise Manager, under Replication Monitor, the Distribution Agent "default profile" or "new" does not show this parameter. In Enterprise Manager, you cannot add this parameter either.
2. In SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Manager, under Replication Monitor, the Distribution Agent default or new profile includes the KeepAliveMessageInterval parameter. This parameter is not documented in SQL Server 2000 Books Online for the Distribution Agent profile. SQL Server Books Online incorrectly states that this parameter is only available to the Merge Agent.

To add the -SkipFailureLevel parameter:

1. Right-click the Distribution Agent, and then click Agent properties.
2. On the Steps tab, double-click the Run Agent job step.
3. In the Command box, at the end of the command, add the parameter -SkipFailureLevel 1 or 0, click Apply, and then restart this Distribution Agent job to let the new configuration take affect.
