SYMPTOMS

After you use NT Backup to restore a complete Windows 2000-based computer and system state, network adapter drivers, HBA adapter drivers, and other device drivers may not work correctly. This problem typically occurs only when more than one of each device is present in the computer during the backup/restoration process.

CAUSE

Limitations of the system state restoration process prevent specific registry keys from being recovered. This may cause the system to not be able to properly enumerate all the peripheral devices on the computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, delete and re-install each affected device after you complete the restoration:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, double-click Computer Management, and then double-click Device Manager.
  2. Right-click a device that is affected by this issue, and then click Uninstall. Repeat this step until each device that is affected by this issue is removed.
  3. Right-click the computer name in Device Manager, click Scan for hardware changes, and then follow the instructions on the screen to install the correct drivers.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
