Package updates to run a local copy of a program are ignored by computers that are running the Legacy Client program in Systems Management Server 2003 (322538)

This article was previously published under Q322538 SYMPTOMSIn Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003, you distribute a package that is configured with source files and with a command line that is run from a distribution point. Computers receive the package and then run it. You later modify the package so that it does not contain source files. You do this so that client computers will run a local copy of the program and will not reconnect to the distribution point. You then update the package on the distribution points. When the computers that are running the Legacy Client program run the package again, the Advertised Programs Monitor still tries to connect to the distribution point to run the program. In this scenario, the Legacy Client program ignores the new package configuration to run the local copy of the program.
Note Computers that are running SMS 2003 Advanced do not experience these symptoms.WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, you must create and distribute a new package to the client computers.STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
