XCCC: OWA 2000 Displays an Extra Instance of a Recurring Appointment That You Created in OWA 5.5 (322190)

SYMPTOMS

If you create a recurring appointment or a recurring meeting request by using Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA) for Exchange Server 5.5, you may see an additional instance of the appointment when you view the appointment series by using OWA for Exchange 2000 Server.

Example 1

1. Use OWA for Exchange Server 5.5 to create a recurring appointment for userA (who has an Exchange Server 5.5 mailbox).
   
   For example, create a recurring appointment that occurs the last Saturday of every month. Use today's date (14-Jun-2002 in this example) and give the appointment no end date.
2. Move userA's mailbox to a server that is running Exchange 2000.
3. Use OWA for Exchange 2000 to view the appointment series in the calendar.

Results:
OWA for Exchange 2000 displays two instances of the appointment in the first month, one on the date that the appointment series was created (14-Jun-2002 in this example) and another on the first date of the appointment (29-Jun-2002 in this example).

Example 2

1. Use OWA for Exchange Server 5.5 to create a recurring meeting, and invite userB (who has an Exchange 2000 mailbox).
   
   For example, create a recurring meeting that occurs the last Saturday of every month. Use today's date (14-Jun-2002 in this example) and give the meeting no end date.
2. Use OWA for Exchange 2000 to accept the meeting.
3. Use OWA for Exchange 2000 to view the meeting series.

Results:
OWA for Exchange 2000 displays two instances of the meeting in the first month, one on the date the appointment series was created (14-Jun-2002 in this example) and another on the first date of the appointment (29-Jun-2002 in this example).

NOTES:

• Microsoft Outlook clients do not display the 14-Jun-2002 instance of the meeting or appointment.
• This issue only occurs when the recurring meeting or appointment is created in OWA for Exchange Server 5.5.
