SUMMARY

Microsoft Money offers online services with financial institutions whose Web sites directly communicate with Money. However, some financial institutions do not offer direct online services with Money. To retrieve your account information online from an institution that does not offer direct online services, see if the financial institution's Web site offers a way to view your account information online and to export that data to your computer.

This article describes how to set up such a connection to your financial institution and then export the data.

MORE INFORMATION

To set up an online connection with your financial institution, turn on the Connect to Bank feature for that account. You can then access the financial institution's Web site from Money, export your account information to your computer, and then import the file into Money. To do this, follow these steps.

Part 1: Determine whether your financial institution provides your financial information on its Web site

  1. Connect to the Internet, and then visit your financial institution's Web site.
  2. Use the Web site Search function to search for information about how to export (or download) account information to the computer.
If you determine that you can view your account information online and export that information to your computer, proceed to part 2 to set up an online connection in Money.

Part 2: Set up an online connection in Money

  1. On the Accounts & Bills menu in Money, click Account List.

For Microsoft Money 2005 and later versions, click Banking on the Accounts & Bills menu.
  2. Click the account that you want to connect to.
  3. In the left pane of the Account Register, click Change Account Details or click Change account settings.
  4. Under the Account number box, click Update Contact Info for this bank or broker.
  5. In the Internet Address box, type the Web site address for your financial institution, and then click Done.
  6. Click Done again to get back to the account register screen.
  7. In the left pane of the Account Register, click Connect to Bank, and then click Go to Bank Name Web site, where Bank Name is the name of the financial institution that you want to connect to.

Money opens the financial institution's Web page.
  8. Log on to your account and export (that is, download) information from the financial institution to your computer by using the instructions that you located in part 1 of this procedure.

The steps to export financial data depend on the data format that the financial institution uses.

Part 3: Import the exported file into Money

Import the information that you downloaded from your financial institution Web site into the corresponding Money account. For more information about how to import a statement into Money, click Microsoft Money Help on the Help menu, type import in the Office Assistant or the Answer Wizard, and then click Search to view the topic.
