"This installation package could not be opened" error message when you try to install Money (322151)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install Microsoft Money, you may receive the following error message:
This installation package could not be opened.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the Microsoft Windows Installer is damaged or is installed incorreclty on the computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, install the Microsoft Money System Pack (Syspack.msi) from the Money CD, and then install Money. To do this, follow these steps.

Install Syspack.msi from the Money CD-ROM

  1. Insert the Money installation CD into your computer's CD or DVD drive. Hold down the SHIFT key to prevent the installation process from starting automatically.
  2. Click Start, click Run, and then type drive:\syspack.msi in the Open box.

    In this example, drive is the drive letter of your CD or DVD drive.
  3. Click OK.
  4. Follow the instructions to complete the installation process.

Use Setup.exe to Install Money

  1. Click Start, click Run, and then type drive:\setup.exe in the Open box.

    In this example, drive is the drive letter of your CD or DVD drive.
  2. Click OK.
  3. Follow the instructions to complete the installation process.
