ActiveSync does not reconnect after you log off and log on (321935)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft ActiveSync 3.5
- Microsoft ActiveSync 3.6
- Microsoft ActiveSync 4.0
This article was previously published under Q321935 SYMPTOMS ActiveSync may not automatically reconnect to
a Pocket PC 2002 device that is connected on a Universal Serial Bus (USB)
connection after you log off and then log back on to a Microsoft Windows
2000-based or Microsoft Windows XP-based computer. ActiveSync starts but does
not connect, and you receive the following error message: Microsoft ActiveSync does not recognize the device that is trying
to connect. If it is a mobile device, click Retry to try connecting again. If
it is not a mobile device, click Disconnect COM Port to stop Microsoft
ActiveSync from looking for a device on this port. If you later want to connect
to this COM port again, open ActiveSync and on the file menu, select Get
Connected. If you disconnect the COM port or USB port in the
ActiveSync connection settings (as the error message describes) and you then
select the connection again in the ActiveSync connection settings, the
connection is established again. WORKAROUND To work around this problem, disconnect and then reconnect
the mobile device. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
