XL2000: Excel Stops Responding (Crashes) When You Insert Copied Rows or Columns (321859)

SYMPTOMS

If you click Copied Cells on the Insert menu to insert a row or a column that you copied from a shared Excel 2000 workbook, you may receive an application error message, and Excel 2000 may stop responding (crash).

CAUSE

The problem occurs when Excel 2000 tries to write out the undo information for the Insert/Delete revision of the shared Excel 2000 workbooks. If the record is so large that it exceeds one of the buffers, it nulls the internal pointer. When Excel 2000 tries to access that pointer, it stops responding (crashes).

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Office 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

The English version of this fix has the file attributes (or later) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP-3).
