Cannot Use the Network Monitor Remote Feature in Windows XP (321803)

When you are using Network Monitor to connect to a Network Monitor agent on a Windows XP-based computer, you may receive the following error message:
The specified network is invalid: \\machinenamemac address Error 0x80044002
CAUSE
This problem may be caused by an incompatibility in COM threading models between the Network Monitor program and the Network Monitor agent that is included with Windows XP.

WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, install and run Network Monitor directly on the appropriate computer.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows XP Service Pack 1.
