XL2002: Excel Quits Unexpectedly When You Switch Between Tab Strip and Chart on Worksheet (321797)

SYMPTOMS

If you insert a Microsoft Forms 2.0 TabStrip control and a chart on a worksheet, and you click between the control, the chart, and the cells on the worksheet, Excel quits unexpectedly, and you receive an application error message. In Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 1 (SP-1), the error information reads as follows:

Offset: 0001cc51e

CAUSE

Excel does not correctly handle the in-place and user-interface activation of some classes of semi-windowless controls.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft Office XP Service Pack that contains this hotfix.
