XCCC: Microsoft Mobile Information Server Installation Is Not Supported on an Exchange 2000 Server Computer (321727)

SUMMARY

When you install Mobile Information Server, only the components that are listed in the "More Information" section of this article are supported on the Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server computer. Any other configuration may destabilize Mobile Information Server, Exchange 2000, or both. Additionally, the product was designed for multiple server installations, and such configurations have not been tested by Microsoft.

The Setup program prevents Mobile Information Server from being installed on the same server as Exchange 2000. If you try to bypass this protection mechanism, the result is a configuration in which neither Exchange 2000 nor Mobile Information Server are supported by Microsoft.

The following Mobile Information Server components are supported on an Exchange 2000 server:

Exchange Notifications (includes all subcomponents): Provides push notifications from Exchange 2000.
Administrative Tools (includes all subcomponents): Permits administrators to set user and system configuration.

The following Mobile Information Server components are not supported on an Exchange 2000 server:

Outlook Mobile Access: This is a core component of Mobile Information Server, with which you can use a Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) browser to access an Exchange 2000 mailbox in real time.
Microsoft Server ActiveSync (includes all subcomponents): Provides synchronization to Exchange 2000 mailboxes. Microsoft Server ActiveSync is available only in Mobile Information Server 2002.
Outlook Mobile Access for Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 (includes all subcomponents): This allows WAP to browse an Exchange Server mailbox.
