How to display progress that is based on the "Physical Percent (%) Complete" field in Microsoft Project 2002 (321669)

SYMPTOMS

For tasks, you cannot display progress bars that are based on the Physical Percent (%) Complete field in Microsoft Project 2002.

CAUSE

Microsoft Project 2002 does not directly support a bar style definition that is based on the Physical % Complete field.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, calculate the date through which the progress is complete, and base the calculation on the Physical % Complete field. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. In the task view that you want (for example, the Gantt Chart view), click Column on the Insert menu.
  2. In the Field name list, click Finish1, and then click OK.

    The Finish1 column is inserted into the current view.
  3. Right-click Finish1, and then click Customize Fields.
  4. Click Formula, and then type the following formula in the Finish1= box: projdateadd([start],([physical % complete]/100)*[duration])
  5. Click OK, click OK to confirm the replacement of existing data in the Finish1 field with the new calculated values, and then click OK.
  6. On the Format menu, click Bar Styles.
  7. Create a bar style with the From value of Start, and the To value of Finish1.

    For example, follow these steps:
    1. Click a new blank cell in the Name column, and then type test progress.
    2. Click the Appearance column of the test progress row.

      A shaded bar appears.
    3. Click the Show For ... Tasks column, and then click Normal in the list.
    4. Click the From column of this same row, and then click Start in the list.
    5. Click the To column of this same row, and then click Finish1 in the list.
  8. Click OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

The Physical % Complete task field shows a percent complete value that you can use to calculate the budgeted cost of work performed (BCWP). This field is also named Earned Value % Complete.
