OAER: Office XP Program Stops Responding and Generates an Error Signature That References Blnmgrps.dll (321658)

reports provided by our users, our engineers devised a workaround for this
problem. This article contains information that may help you avoid experiencing
this problem again in the future. ERROR SIGNATURE This article describes a problem in which an Office XP program
unexpectedly quits (crashes) with the following error signature:

where:
- OfficeProgram is Msaccess.exe,
Excel.exe, Frontpg.exe, Powerpnt.exe, Mspub.exe, or Winword.exe.
- x.x.x.x is a number that is
greater than 10.0.2627.1.
- version is either 9.0.0.2601 or
9.0.0.3420.
Additionally, other offsets are possible. SYMPTOMS When you use one of the Microsoft Office XP products that
are listed at the beginning of this article, you may receive the following
error message: Microsoft Office
program has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are
sorry for the inconvenience.

Office program that you are using.
When you view the data in the error report, the report contains
an error signature that is similar to the error signature that is listed at the
beginning of this article. CAUSE This problem may occur if both of the following conditions
exist:
- Office XP and Microsoft Office 2000 are installed on the
computer.
- An incorrect version of the Blnmgrps.dll file is used by
Office XP.
This problem may occur if the Blnmgrps.dll file is not updated
to the latest version when Office XP is installed on the computer on which
Office 2000 is also installed. RESOLUTION To resolve this problem, run Detect and Repair to repair
your installation of Office XP. This procedure updates the Blnmgrps.dll file to
the correct version. To do this, follow these steps: NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the
following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your
product documentation to complete these steps. - Click Start, and then click
Control Panel.
- Click Add or Remove Programs.
- In the list of installed programs, click Microsoft
Office XP, and then click Change.
- Click Repair Office - Restore your Microsoft Office
XP installation to its original state, and then click
Next.
- Click Detect and Repair errors in my Office
installation, and then click Install.
- Click OK when you receive the message that
Setup successfully repaired your Office installation.
- Click Close.
