WD2000: JPN: Browser Stops Responding When You Display Word Document in Iframe (321654)

SYMPTOMS

If you display a Microsoft Word document in an HTML iframe or frame in Microsoft Internet Explorer, the browser stops responding and does not display the document.

Additionally, the Winword.exe process causes CPU usage of 100 percent.

NOTE: This problem only occurs when you use the Japanese versions of Microsoft Word 2000 and Microsoft Windows XP. For example, the problem does not occur with the following product combinations:
  • Microsoft Word 2002 and Microsoft Windows XP
  • Microsoft Word 2002 and Microsoft Windows 2000
  • Microsoft Word 2000 and Microsoft Windows 2000

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Word 2000 does not correctly process the window message that Windows XP sends.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Microsoft Office 2000 service pack that contains this hotfix.

The Japanese version of this fix should have the following file attributes or later. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.
