Cannot start site deployment in Export mode (321651)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Content Management Server 2001

This article was previously published under Q321651

SYMPTOMS

When you try to use the Site Builder to start site deployment in Export mode, the interface window may not appear, and you may receive the following error message:
Error: 0
Description: Bad file name or number
Severity: 5
Source: NRSiteDeployUI
Debug info: N/A
Extra info: N/A
Client Source: frmExportFrame::Init
Recommended Action: N/A

CAUSE

The My Documents folder is mapped to a hidden folder or to the root of a network share, such as \\server\share. When site deployment is started in Export mode, it reads the user profile from the My Documents folder. By design, site deployment cannot parse through a hidden folder.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods:
  • Change the mapped folder to a non-hidden folder.
  • Create a folder inside the hidden folder, and then map the My Documents folder to that subfolder.
  • Map a network drive to your hidden folder, and then map the My Documents folder to that network drive.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Content Management Server 2001.
