SYMPTOMS

Your Microsoft Metadirectory Services (MMS) server may stop responding (hang), and you may receive the following entries in Genlogs:
  • ERR_00 0570 datetime (DB5_NewUnlinkEmptySlot) Parent position is pointing within the location used to store versionERR_00 0570 datetime (DB5_NewUnlinkEmptySlot) An error has been encountered in the MMS Server database. Please run VIACompact to repair this corruption. Shutting down MMS Server.DBG_02 0570 datetime (VSOCK_VSOCK_IOCP_Handler::IOCP_Loop) Caught exception.
If you run an MMS compaction, you may be able to fix the corruption that is described in these log entries. However, the problem is likely to occur again later.

CAUSE

The problem occurs because of the empty slot routine working incorrectly when it tries to reclaim space.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next version of MMS that contains this fix.
