PPT2001: "The Server Application, Source File, or Item Cannot Be Found" Error Message When You Try to Edit an Embedded Object (321484)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to edit an embedded object (for example, a Microsoft Graph object) in PowerPoint, you may receive the following error message:
The server application, source file, or item cannot be found. You should reinstall the server application.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the Embedding Preferences or the PPC Registration Database files are corrupted.

NOTE: This problem may also occur if the file that is used as the source of a copy-and-paste is damaged.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Open the System:Preferences folder, and then make backup copies of the following files:
    • Embedding Preferences
    • PPC Registration Database

  2. Move these files (the original copies) from the System:Preferences folder to the desktop.
