WD2002: The Whole Document Is Translated When You Translate Chinese Characters That Are in a Cell in a Table (321401)

SYMPTOMS

When you translate Chinese characters in your Microsoft Word 2002 document that are contained in a cell in a table from Traditional Chinese to Simplified Chinese, or from Simplified Chinese to Traditional Chinese, you may note that the whole document is translated.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the following conditions are true:
  • The Chinese characters that you want to translate are contained in a cell in a table.

    -and-
  • You select the row that contains the cell, and then translate the characters (on the Tools menu, point to Language, and then click Chinese Translation).

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install the latest service pack for Microsoft Office XP. For additional information about how to obtain and install the latest Office XP service pack, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

The English version of this fix has the file attributes (or later) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, select only the cell or cells in the table that contain the Chinese characters that you want to translate, and then translate the characters.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 2 (SP-2).
