WD2002: AutoCorrect Settings Do Not Persist When You Use Word as E-mail Editor in Outlook (321400)

SYMPTOMS

When you use Microsoft Word as your e-mail editor, AutoCorrect settings for Plain Text format messages do not persist between Microsoft Outlook sessions.

Note that AutoCorrect settings for Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) and Rich Text format messages do persist between sessions.

CAUSE

The WordMail and Plain Text WordMail settings are not synchronized when Microsoft Office first loads the preferences from the registry. That is, the Plain Text WordMail settings are reset to their default values every session, but the WordMail settings are loaded from the registry.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft Office XP service pack that contains this hotfix.

The English version of this fix should have the following file attributes or later. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use any of the following methods:
  • Set the AutoCorrect options at the beginning of each Outlook session.
  • Use HTML or Rich Text format instead of Plain Text format.
  • Use the Outlook editor instead of the Word editor.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
