XL2002: JPN: Excel Stops Responding When a Calculated Field Is Inserted in a PivotTable (321397)

SYMPTOMS

When you use Microsoft Excel 2002 with the Input Method Editor (IME) 2002 active and add a calculated field with a Double Byte Character Set (DBCS) field name to a PivotTable, Excel appears to stop responding.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when Microsoft Excel tries to get or set the pointer position inside a text box while another program (such as IME 2002) is being used in Excel, a malfunction can occur when the message is sent to the text box.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Office XP product name Public Update that contains this fix.

The Japanese version of this fix has the file attributes (or later) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

After the hotfix is installed, the following files will have the listed attributes or later:

In addition to the new files noted earlier, the following registry changes must be made to enable this functionality. To make the registry changes, follow these steps:

How to Activate the Hotfix by Using the QFE_Yokohama Registry Key


To activate the product fix that is listed in this article, modify the following registry key and value:
  1. If Excel is running, quit Excel.
  2. Click Start, and then click Run.
  3. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
  4. Locate, and then click to select the following registry key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Excel\Options

  5. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD.
  6. Type the following name for the new value:

    QFE_Yokohama

  7. Press the ENTER key.
  8. Right-click the QFE_Yokohama registry key, and then click Modify.
  9. In the Value data box, type 1.
  10. Click OK, and then quit Registry Editor.

Note To disable the fix, set the Registry key value to 0.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
