  • Microsoft Windows Media Player for Pocket PC

This article was previously published under Q321238

SYMPTOMS

If you start playing a .wmv file by using File Explorer after you play a .wma file in Windows Media Player, video is not played. Instead, only the audio portion is played. If you play the same .wmv file from a playlist in Windows Media Player, both the audio and the video are played.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, you must either perform a "soft" reset of the device or end the Windows Media task in memory.

To perform a "soft" reset of the Pocket PC, see the manufacturer's instructions.

To end the Windows Media task in memory:
  1. Tap Start, and then tap Settings.
  2. On the System tab, tap Memory.
  3. On the Running Programs tab, tap Windows Media, and then tap Stop.
  4. Close the Settings window.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

This issue does not occur if you select a .wmv file from the playlist in Windows Media Player. It occurs only if you first play a .wma file, and then play a video (.wmv) file by selecting it through File Explorer.
