OL: The Ambiguous Name Resolution Feature Does Not Work for Simple MAPI Programs (321181)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Outlook 2000
- Microsoft Outlook 2002
- Microsoft Outlook 98
This article was previously published under Q321181 SUMMARY
The Ambiguous Name Resolution (ANR) feature in Microsoft Outlook tries to automatically resolve names that you enter in the To, Cc, and Bcc fields of a message. The feature only works in Outlook.
If you use third-party or user written programs to send messages, those programs may use Simple MAPI or Extended MAPI to display a form that permits you to specify recipients in the To, Cc, and Bcc fields. These MAPI forms do not engage the Ambiguous Name Resolution feature to resolve the recipient names. These recipient names are resolved during the send process as a typical part of MAPI processing, but not before the send unless the programs that present the form have some sort of resolve names processing.
