SYMPTOMS

The Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2000 OnePoint service may stop unexpectedly.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the Workstation service is not running. The MOM agents require the Workstation service.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Microsoft Operations Manager 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, start the Workstation service on the managed server.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section of this article.This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Microsoft Operations Manager 2000 Service Pack 1.

The OnePoint service may start and run for approximately five minutes before stopping. You see the following event 9011 record in the Application log:
The Microsoft Operations Manager 2000 service (OnePointService.exe) received a stop request from the Service Control Manager.
