Web Folders Do Not Refresh Correctly in Windows Explorer After You Install Internet Explorer 6 (321069)

SYMPTOMS

If you use the client components for SharePoint Portal Server, Web folders may not refresh correctly in Microsoft Windows Explorer.

The right pane view may not refresh to match the Web folder that you select in the left pane while you are browsing through the Web folders hierarchy.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if you install Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6 after you installed the client components for SharePoint Portal Server.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods:
  • Right-click the folder that you selected in the left pane, and then click Explore to open a new window. If you do so, the right pane refreshes correctly in this new window. -or-

  • Click Folders to remove the folder hierarchy view. Locate a folder by either double-clicking a folder or clicking Up. Click Folders to restore the folder hierarchy view. The right pane refreshes correctly.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
