Backup Operation of SharePoint Portal Server Stops Responding (321027)

This article was previously published under Q321027 SYMPTOMS When you back up SharePoint Portal Server, you may notice
that the backup operation stops responding. As a result, you cannot complete
the backup of SharePoint Portal Server. CAUSEThis problem may occur in situations when the backup thread
acquires a lock on the gatherer history, and filter daemons that are no longer
required are not released. This results in a deadlock condition and as a
result, the backup operation does not complete.RESOLUTION To
resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft SharePoint

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2001 SP-1.
This problem was first corrected in Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server
2001 Service Pack 2 (SP-2).
