The ITransaction::Abort() Code Does Not Return the Message to the Queue (320984)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Message Queuing 2.0

This article was previously published under Q320984

SYMPTOMS

If Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MS DTC) is off when you use the Receive function in an external transaction, the ITransaction::Abort() code does not return the message to the queue. This issue also occurs if you shut down MS DTC after you use the Receive function, and then restart MS DTC before you use the SetAbort function.

If you upgrade to Windows 2000 Service Pack 3, you may receive the following 0xc00e004c ( -1072824244 ) error:
MQ_ERROR_DTC_CONNECT - A connection cannot be established with the Distributed Transaction Coordinator.

CAUSE

Windows 2000 Microsoft Cluster Service (MSCS) does not have a set dependency for Message Queuing resources on MS DTC. When MS DTC is not available, the Receive function always removes the message from the queue.
