BUG: Commerce Server Business Desk Displays the Predictor Panels Even If You Have Not Installed the Predictor Component (320975)

SYMPTOMS

When you install Commerce Server 2002, even if you do not have the Predictor service installed, Predictor items (Segment Viewer, and Affinity Lists) still appear in Commerce Server Business Desk; however, if you click one of these items, you receive the following error message:
Predictor Service is not Installed.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. Install Commerce Server 2002 standard edition.
  2. Unpup a blank site.
  3. Upgrade to Commerce Server 2002 Commerce Edition (this does not install the Predictor component that is missing in the Standard Edition).
  4. Go to Business Desk; the site is blank.
Expected result: The items should not be there until you uninstall the Predictor component.

NOTE: The error does not disappear when you install Predictor. You need to add the Predictor resource in the site to stop the message from appearing.
