SYMPTOMS

When you are editing a Virtual Catalog, the Edit button for catalog categories may be available for some categories, but not for others.

You cannot edit categories from a base catalog in a Virtual Catalog. These categories are denoted by having the base catalog name appended to them in parenthesis. However, you can edit categories that you have created in the Virtual Catalog. To edit a base category, open its parent base catalog in the Catalog Editor module.
