Cannot Copy Images from Word to Web Browser Client Placeholders (320953)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Content Management Server 2001 SP1
- NCompass Resolution 4.0
This article was previously published under Q320953 SYMPTOMS
When you try to copy images (.jpg files, .gif files, or .bmp files) from Microsoft Word into placeholders in the Web Browser Client (WBC), you see a blank text box instead of the image, and you receive the following error message when you either preview or save the posting:
Invalid Content or formatting was found and was stripped out when saved. Click the placeholder properties for allowed content and formatting.
CAUSE
Word adds its own XML styling tags around the image and its corresponding HTML. When you copy these images from Word, the XML is brought in with the image. The placeholder does not allow these tags to be inserted, and removes the tags. Because the image tags are mixed with the XML, the WBC also removes the image tags.
WORKAROUND
This is not an issue in the Site Builder.
To work around this problem, drag the image from Word to the desktop, and then drag the image from the desktop to the WBC.
NOTE: When you do this, make sure that the active desktop does not remove the file name extension of the image. If the active desktop removes the file name extension, this workaround does not work, and you must rename and change the file name extension of the image. Note that .jpg files and .gif files seem to work the best when you use this workaround.
This is not an issue if you drag or copy from a folder or directory in the file system or if you insert an image with the CMS Insert Image button in the Microsoft Internet Explorer toolbar from your local directory or resource gallery.
MORE INFORMATION
Also note that you cannot drag the image from Word to the WBC placeholder. The image is inserted, but it becomes smaller and is a little distorted in appearance.
