PUB2000: You Cannot Save Over an Existing File on a Removable Drive (320950)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Publisher 2000

This article was previously published under Q320950

SYMPTOMS

When you save a file to a removable drive, such as a Universal Serial Bus (USB) drive, a SCSIZip drive, or a SCSI Magneto Optical (MO) drive, you may receive the following error message:
There is no disk in the floppy drive or the drive door is not closed.
Please make sure that the floppy drive is ready, then try again

CAUSE

This problem occurs because administrative credentials are required for the way that Microsoft Publisher tries to change the active drive letter, and you do not have administrative permissions on the system where the removable drive is located.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, save your Microsoft Publisher file to the local disk or on your desktop, and then copy the file to the removable drive from Microsoft Windows Explorer.

NOTE: This problem has been corrected in Microsoft Publisher 2002.
