One-Hour Delay Occurs During Startup with a USB Keyboard and PS/2 Mouse (320877)

This article was previously published under Q320877 SYMPTOMS Windows 2000 may stop responding (hang) for up to one hour
during the startup process. This behavior may occur if you are using some USB
keyboards that have an incorporated PS/2 mouse port, and a mouse is connected
to the port on the keyboard. CAUSE The delay occurs because of a longer response time for the

WORKAROUND You might be able to work around this problem by unplugging
and then reconnecting the USB keyboard during the delay. STATUSMicrosoft has
confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at

This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4.
