FIX: Calculated Members, Actions, and Named Sets That Are Created from a Decision Support Objects Application Are Not Displayed (320723)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services

This article was previously published under Q320723
BUG #: 12827 (plato7x)

SYMPTOMS

Calculated members, named sets, and actions are not displayed in Analysis Manager Cube Editor after you create a new cube from a custom Decision Support Object (DSO) application, and then you edit it in Analysis Manager.

This problem only occurs if the instance of Analysis Manager that you used to edit the cube is open when you create the new cube from the custom DSO application.

NOTE: If you close Analysis Manager, and then restart it, the problem no longer occurs.

CAUSE

The problem occurs because of an issue with the way the list of cubes is refreshed in the Analysis Manager.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft SQL Server 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, close all instances of Analysis Manager before you run the custom DSO application that creates the cube.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services.
This problem was first corrected in Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 3.

MORE INFORMATION

Analysis Services stores the definition of the calculated members, actions, named sets and Dynamic Link Library (DLL) registrations as a collection of commands. These commands are included in the database record in the OLAP Repository. Security roles also store a collection of commands that are related to the role restrictions. Prior to this fix, the commands collection of new objects was incorrectly read from the ROLES commands collection for the cube instead of the Cube Commands collection.
