Page URL Displayed as GUID Names Instead of Channel Hierarchy Names (320569)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Content Management Server 2001 SP1
This article was previously published under Q320569 SYMPTOMS
When you locate a page on a computer that is running Content Management Server (CMS) 2001, the page Uniform Resource Locator (URL) that the Web browser address bar displays is based on the globally unique identifier (GUID) and resembles the following:
http://Server_Name/NR/exeres/SDJF20984DJSKL2098FK2Ddefault.asp
You expect the address bar to display the channel hierarchical name, as follows:
http://Server_Name/intranet/default.htm
Additionally, the page content may not be the most updated version of the page.
CAUSE
CMS 2001 permits site authors to place two pages that have exactly the same name in the same channel. CMS determines which page to send to client browsers when the page is requested based on whether the page is requested by the Authsession.ThisChannel.Posting application programming interface (API) call or by a URL from the client computer. If these two methods select different postings to display, the URL of the page is displayed as a GUID-based name in the client browser.
WORKAROUND
Do not keep two or more postings that have exactly the same names and that are in the Published state in the same channel. CMS site administrators can expire the other versions of the page and keep only one version published.
