FIX: Update the PUP File with the Extended Expiration Dates for Some Expired Ads (320510)

SUMMARY

Three or four of the ads in the sample PUP file that is provided with Microsoft TV Server 1.0 for demonstration and test purposes (the MSTVSite.pup file in \Samples\Content Targeting\Microsoft Commerce Server 2000 on the Microsoft TV Server 1.0 CD-ROM) have expired. These ads are not sent to the client set-top box and do not appear on the screen.

This problem does not occur in situations where real ads are set up.

This problem was fixed in Service Pack 2. A new MSTVSite.pup file (and a ReadMe) is provided in the \MSTV Server 1.0 SP2\Samples\Microsoft Commerce Server 2000 folder on the version 1.0.2 CD-ROM. The ads have been updated in the PUP files so that you do not have to set the expiration date after every install.

To fix the expired ads, do one of the following:
  • Remove the old PUP file and install the new PUP file that is included with Service Pack 2.
  • Open the BizDesk, and then change the expiration date (see Commerce Server BizDesk help).
NOTE: If you are not using sample ads from MSTV Site, you do not have to install the new PUP file.

Use the following procedure to remove the old PUP file.

Remove the Old MSTVSite Commerce Database and Associated Components

Associated components are applications and databases that were installed during the unpacking of a PUP file. To remove these items, follow these steps:
  1. Disconnect all current connections to the MSTVSite_commerce database.
    1. On the Start menu, click SQL Enterprise Manager.
    2. Click SQL Servers, click Your instance, click Management, click Current Activity, and then click Process Info.
    3. In the Process Info dialog box, for each process that uses the MSTVSite_commerce database, the DirectMailer database, or the MSTVSite_dw database, right-click the process, and then click kill process.
  2. Copy the Clog.vbs, Common.vbs, Cpup.vbs, and UninstallApps.wsf files from the TV Server installation CD-ROM, which is located in the Release\CD\Support\Samples\Microsoft Commerce Server 2000 folder, to the computer that has the MSTVSite_Commerce database installed.
  3. Double-click UninstallApps.wsf to remove the MSTVSite_Commerce database and related components.
The following steps are sanity checks. You may not have to follow these steps if step 3 of the previous procedure performed all of the actions correctly:
  1. On the Start menu, click Settings, click Add/Remove Programs, and then remove Commerce Server 2000 Business Desk.
  2. In Computer Management, click MMC, click IIS, and then click Default Web Sites. On the Default Web Sites list, delete the MSTVBizDesk virtual directory and the MSTVSite virtual directory.
  3. Delete MSTVBizDesk and MSTVSite from the C:\Inetpub\wwwroot folder.
  4. Delete the MSTVSite_commerce, DirectMailer, and MSTVSite_dw databases from SQL Server.

    NOTE: You cannot delete this database if you have open connections to it. You may have to stop your service or restart SQL 2000 if you experience problems when you try to delete this database.
  5. In the C:\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Data folder, verify that there are no remaining data files associated with these databases. If you find remaining data files, delete them.
