XADM: Subcontainers Are Missing Under a Recipient Connection Agreement (320482)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
This article was previously published under Q320482 SYMPTOMS
When you use the Active Directory Connector (ADC) Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in to view the properties of a particular recipient Connection Agreement, or when you create a new recipient Connection Agreement, you can browse for a source recipient container in the Exchange directory. To do so, click Add on the From Exchange tab. However, when you try to add a recipient container this way, you may not be able to view some containers or subcontainers that you know exist in the Exchange directory.
CAUSE
This issue may occur if you surpass the administrative limits for the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) protocol, as defined in the target server's Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 directory. Exchange Server 5.5 limits the number of objects that are returned to an LDAP query. If the parent container contains more objects in than the number that is specified in the Maximum number of search results returned box in the LDAP Protocol properties of the Exchange Server, the containers or subcontainers may not be returned to the client (in this case, the ADC MMC). Therefore, only some (or even none) of the subcontainers may be displayed.
WORKAROUND
You can set LDAP protocol settings at either the site level or at the server level. Protocol settings set at the site level affect all of the Exchange Server 5.5 servers in the site. However, if a particular server does not use the Use site defaults for all properties option, you can set LDAP properties at that server, and those settings affect LDAP interaction with only that server.
To work around this issue:
- Start the Exchange Server 5.5 version of the Exchange Server Administrator program for the server that you are trying to connect to (in other words, the Exchange Server computer that the ADC is communicating with).
- Expand the Configuration container, and then expand the Servers container.
- Expand the container for the server that you want to change LDAP protocol settings for.
- Click Protocols, and then double-click LDAP (Directory) settings in the right pane.
- Click the Search tab, and then increase the Maximum number of search results returned value. The default value is 100.
- If the Maximum number of search results returned value is unavailable (appears dimmed), site LDAP protocols are being used. To change the site LDAP values:
- In the Exchange Server Administrator program, expand the Site container, expand the Configuration container, and then click Protocols.
- In the right pane, double-click LDAP(Directory) Site Defaults.
- Click the Search tab, and then increase the Maximum number of search results returned value. The default value is 100.
MORE INFORMATION
By default, the Maximum number of search results returned value is set to 100. This setting may be too low.
