Only the Trial and Academic versions of Visual Studio .NET (VS .NET) require activation.
MORE INFORMATIONTrial Version
The Trial version of VS .NET requires activation before it can be used. You must activate this version by using the Internet. Afterward, you may use the Trial version of VS .NET for 60 days. After 60 days, you can run the Trial version an additional five times before the product becomes unusable.
This version of Visual Studio .NET can also be activated on only one computer. Any attempts to activate the same copy on another computer after initial activation will fail.
Academic Version
You can run the Academic version of VS .NET up to five times before you activate the product. After five uses, you must activate the product by phone or by using the Internet. Unlike the Trial version of VS .NET, the life of the Academic version is not limited.
