WD2000: No "Basic Options" Dialog Box When You Insert a CGM File (320335)

SYMPTOMS

When you insert a Computer Graphics Metafile (CGM) file into a Word 2000 document, the Basic Options dialog box does not appear. This occurs even after you run the EditConversionOptions macro from the Support9.dot file to set the ShowOptionsDialog setting to Yes.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Office 2000 service pack that contains this hotfix.

The English version of this fix should have the following file attributes or later. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

After you apply the fix, you must add registry keys to the registry to activate the fix. Follow these steps to add the registry keys. WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
Follow these steps, and then quit Registry Editor:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. Locate and then click the following key in the registry:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Common

  3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD value.
  4. Type EnableCGMShowOptionsDlgUserSetting, and then press ENTER.
  5. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
  6. Type 00000001, and then click OK.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
