NNTP Posting Does Not Work Even After a Full Server Rebuild (320330)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
This article was previously published under Q320330 SYMPTOMS
Client posts over Network News Transport Protocol (NNTP) may not work randomly after any server anomaly, hang, or network problem. A full rebuild of the server also does not resolve the issue.
CAUSE
If a server anomaly, hang, or network problem occurs, temporary files may be orphaned in the _slavegroup\_slavegroup folder. These files may cause client posts to seem not to work at random intervals because NNTP tries to create a file that already exists. A full rebuild does not clean up the temporary files.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, obtain and install Windows 2000 SP3. For additional information, click the article number below

WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, delete the temporary files in the _slavegroup folder before you perform a rebuild. These files are located in the Inetpub\Nntpfile\root\_slavegroup\_slavegroup folder.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
