the document, you may receive an error message that is similar to the
following: This program has
performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.
If the problem
persists, contact the program vendor. When you click
Details (on Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition, press
ALT+D), you receive the following information: Winword
caused an invalid page fault in Winword.exe at <address>. Note The actual memory address may vary.
RESOLUTION To resolve this problem, obtain the
latest service pack for Microsoft Office 2000. For additional information,

Important Before you install Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3),
you must have Office 2000 Service Release 1/1a (SR-1/SR-1a) installed. To

WORKAROUNDTo temporarily work around this problem, use one of the
following methods: Method 1: Save As Word 6.0/95To save your document as Word 6.0/95, follow these steps:
- Open the document that is causing the problem. Do not try
to scroll through the document.
- On the File menu, click Save
As.
- In the Save As dialog box, change the
Save as type box to Word 6.0/95 (*.doc), type
a different document name in the File name box, and then click
Save.
- Close the document, and then reopen the Word 6.0/95
document that you saved in step 3.
Method 2: Work in Normal ViewTo open the document in Normal view, follow these steps:
- Open the document that is causing the problem. Do not try
to scroll through the document.
- On the View menu, click
Normal.
- On the File menu, click
Save, and then click Close .
- On the File menu, click
Open, and then reopen the file.
STATUSMicrosoft
has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed
at the beginning of this article.
This problem was first corrected in Microsoft
Office 2000 Service Pack 3.
